Scott, the eleventh Kentucky county, was formed in 1792 from part of Woodford County. It is named for General Charles Scott. Georgetown is the county seat. The courthouse burned in the 1830s and again in 1876. The Scott County Clerk, whose duties are numerous and diverse, records and maintains various legal instruments and Fiscal Court records.
